FAQs

How do I book a holiday cottage or cabin at dod mill?

The easiest way to book your self-catering holiday is online. Simply click on your preferred dates on our calendars for Old Mill and The Bothy. You can also get in touch with us via our online contact form or by using our phone number.

do you have a covid-19 cancellation policy?

Yes! During the unprecedented time of Coronavirus, we have moved to a flexible cancellation policy to give our guests more confidence when booking. It’s called the Coronavirus Booking Guarantee. You pay a deposit of 30% on booking, and this deposit is transferrable to future dates should COVID-19 mean you can’t have your holiday with us when planned. The balance is due just 14 days before your stay. It is usually due 60 days in advance but, during these times, we don’t want anyone to pay balances until we are all sure that the holiday is permitted. Please note that all other terms and conditions remain in place.

how many people can stay at dod mill?

Each of our cottages and cabins sleeps up to 2 guests very comfortably. Old Mill sleeps 1-2, The Bothy sleeps 1-4, Stilt House sleeps 1-3 (or 2 adults plus 2 small children), and Fishing Hut sleeps 1-3 guests. If you’re thinking about Dod Mill as group accommodation or for a retreat venue, in total we can sleep 10 adults comfortably, or up to 13 if guests are willing to share king beds. We are happy to discuss adding extra children or extra adults in bell tents or similar.

are you dog friendly?

Yes! Old Mill and The Bothy can both accommodate one dog at no extra charge. We are willing to have guests bring furry friends to Stilt House too, but please be aware that there are quite a few steps to go up! The Fishing Hut is, in many ways, perfect for dogs, but permission is required before booking. The Fishing Hut is only suitable if you are willing to have your dog on a lead at all times outside the cabin, including by the fire pit. The reason is that the cabin is within our sheep’s field, and it’s not fenced off. For anyone bringing a dog to Dod Mill, we provide info on dog-friendly places to eat and visit nearby. We expect, of course, that guests pick up after their dog across our site, including in our fields please – we are very strict on this point as you will be too! In addition, we ask that dogs are kept on leads when walking in our grounds and fields as not everyone is comfortable with dogs approaching them. Thank you.

what time is check-in at dod mill?

Check in is from 4pm. Usually, you can arrive any time from then onwards, and we will be in touch to make arrangements for keys. If you would like to check-in earlier, then please give us a few days notice – we can often accommodate these requests, but not always. It will depend on how our housekeeping schedule looks for your day of arrival.

what time is check-out at dod mill?

Check out is by 10am please! If you would like a later check-out, please ask a few days in advance. It may or may not be possible, and really depends on our housekeeping schedule for the day you leave. Please make sure you follow the check-out procedures including taking bins out.

do you provide linen and towels?

Yes, we provide linen and towels for all of our properties – both cottages and both cabins. If you require extra beds (e.g. sofa beds in cottages or cabins), please make sure we have discussed this on email / by phone / by text a few days before you arrive.

will we see you during our stay?

We are usually on site in our house for at least some of each day, and almost always overnight. We usually take your lead when it comes to face-to-face contact. If you want to be shown around your property and get a bit of chat about how things work, where is good to eat out, what places you could visit etc, then we are delighted to do this. However, we also know that a lot of people just want to get on with their holiday – this is absolutely fine too! You don’t need to see us when you leave, simply follow the check-out instructions in your cottage or cabin. We are always on text, on the phone, or come and ring our doorbell if you have any problems – we are very happy to help anyone staying with us, for whatever reason!

- What Guests Say -

“Our stay at the Old Mill was just perfect. It is a fabulous property with everything in it that you could possibly need. The surrounding land is beautiful and the information booklet is full of interesting information about it, directing you to safe, interesting walks around the owners’ land. There is a beautiful pond and the owners invited us to help ourselves to the fruits of the gorgeous orchard. The various buildings around the land are so quirky – you need to see them for yourself.”
