Beautiful Scottish Borders video from VisitScotland

22 Nov 2018

We love where we live – the Scottish Borders has all of the scenery you’d expect from Scotland, but without the crowds you get in other parts of the country. We think of it as one of Scotland’s last “hidden gems”. VisitScotland have just produced a new Scottish Borders video which is well worth a watch to get a flavour of things.

Dod Mill is a few miles outside of the Royal Burgh of Lauder. It’s famous for the fairytale turrets of Thirlestane Castle, and it’s also a bit of a gateway town to the rest of the Scottish Borders. From here, you can easily reach the rest of the region – some of which is beautifully captured in the new VisitScotland video of this part of the world.

The video features scenery from across the Scottish Borders and also from neighbouring Dumfries & Galloway. We love that it shows off some of the very active, family-friendly activities that you can experience within 30-60 minutes drive of Dod Mill. These include:

  • St Abb’s Head Nature Reserve
  • Coldingham Bay – for surfing or beach time
  • Go Ape at Glentress
  • 7 Stanes mountain biking at Glentress

Wildflowers, birds and why Dod Mill's meadow matters

Dod Mill's unimproved meadow is home to wildflowers that have almost disappeared from the British landscape. Here is what grows there, what it feeds, and what the birds tell us about the health of the land.
